Differences

The difference is that when you are trying to find the limit as x approaches c, you are trying to find where the function is discontinuous coming from either the positive or negative or both sides. It can give you two different outputs. When you are plugging in c for a function, you get an exact point. The two cases are the same when the discontinuity is removable, you can get an exact point like when you plug in the constant.

Some similarities are that in the end, you are still looking for a slope. You use a formula in order to find both of the slopes. A difference would be that when you find the slope of a derivative, you are looking for the slope of the tangent line, and when you are looking for the slope of a line, you are just looking for the slope of a specific line.

LIMITS

Well, limits have been the hardest thing and most confusing thing for me to learn. I hope I end up understanding them.

Top three problems:
1) How do you find the limit of infinity if you don't know how to graph it?

2) How to solve a limit with sin or cosine or anything like that.

3) Graphing trigonometric functions when there is more than just a variable.

Well I hope I understand it better soon.

Colleges

1. 3 Majors

- Ethics major: Ethics majors study the concept of moral good and practice applying it in various situations. They examine the history and theory of ethics as well as various belief systems. It is determining what is good and wrong and why a religion may think it is good or bad.

- Business major in Marketing Research: Students of marketing research study people’s buying habits in preparation for business careers. They learn how to conduct surveys, research buying trends, study the competition, explore advertising campaigns, and more. I am interested in this because businesses bloom when a certain fad is in and businesses can also break when a fad is gone.

- Community Psychology Major: Community psychology majors learn how to use psychological concepts to study social problems and explore possible solutions. Courses cover such topics as large-group counseling, the prevention of social problems, and social change.

2. Colleges:

- USC- For the ethics major, the closest college is USC, i dislike USC because i like UCLA, but since USC is the closest, I would go there for an ethics major. Good thing i still don't know what i wanna be when i get older. The minimum GPA is atleast a 3.0.

- Boston University offers a marketing research business major. It takes atleast a 3.0 to get into the college. I would like to go out of state for college, since I want to see the world. On my GPA, 35% of students get accepted.

- University of Washington, Bothwell, offers a community psychology degree. It is a 4- year public university that offers a bachelor and master's degree in this field. It is only 7% hispanic, so my ethnicity may help me get into this college.

NOTE: Thanks to this blog activity, I have gained somewhat more of an idea on what I wanna study when it comes to choosing a university.

My hints and tips

Transformations

The way i remember transformations is that they are counter intuitive. Usually the negative sign would mean shift x numbers of units to the left, but when it is in parenthesis, it means that u have to move it to the right. It usually means the opposite of what you think is right. When it is not in parenthesis, negative means down and positive means up.

ex. f(x-4) would mean that you have to shift the graph 4 units to the right.
ex. f(x)-4 would mean that you have to shift the graph 4 units down.

Trigonometry

The way I see trigonometry is by using my unit circle. I have memorized the unit circle from left to right and up to down. I know it pretty well now, it's just that when i have to draw it under pressure, i overthink things. =[
Well, the way i remember, it is that i remember the first quadrants, then i just mirror it from right to left, left to down, then left to right. The radians mirror, so it is, pi,pi/6,pi/4,pi/3,pi/2... from there it is mirrored. The first quadrant is positive, the second is negative positive, the third is all negative, and the fourth is positive negative. The quadrants are pretty easy, but the coordinates are a bit hard. It is kind of the same thing just different numbers, the zeros are pretty easy, its (1,0), (0,1), (-1,0), and (0,-1). The other coordinates are: (root of 3/2, 1/2), (root of 2/root of 2), then it is (1/2, root of 3/2). Then it is mirrored the same way.

What worries me?

Well, I need help on how to graph sin and cosine. I need to study the graphs more because I struggle through them. I also need help on finding the zeros of a graph. Any hints and tips would help me out... =]

Inverses and Logs

I learned this week that logs are exponential functions. A log always has a base of ten unless it has another base on it. A log can be used to find the square root of a number or the exponent of a number. The root of the number goes on the bottom as the base.
ex. Log2(4)=2
2 goes on the bottom as the base.

ln is the natural log. ln is basically the log of e. e is about 2.71, it is a value like pie. Using logs can help us graph equations and figure out exponential functions.

This week we also learned about functions and their inverses.
The inverse of f(x)=f^-1(x). To make sure an inverse is the inverse of the function, you use this equation.
(f o f^-1)=x & (f^-1 o f )=x.
If the number does not fit the equation, it is not the inverse.
The inverse of x^2 is the root of x.

questions: the main question i have is how to find the inverse by solving it.

AP Blog

Even: to find out if a function is even, you first have to use the equation, f(-x)=F(x). The equation will tell you if the function is symmetrical about the Y-axis. Quadrant 1 and 2 will be reflected on one another.

Odd: to find out whether or not a function is odd, you first have to use this equation, f(-x)=-f(x). The function should be symmetrical about the origin of the graph. It would be reflected from quadrant 1 to the x and y axis.

About Me

Well, i was born on June 17, 1993 around 1:00 am,
I have one younger brother,
My favorite number is 4.
I get one hair cut a year, because i like to grow out my hair sometimes,
I am inspired by a certain artist, his name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, or better know as "Kid Cudi". He is also known as Kanye West's Prodigy.
My favorite songs from him are man on the moon and soundtrack to my life.
The last lyrics to his song "In My Dreams", "Long before we know ourselves,
our paths are already set in stone,
some may never figure out their purpose in life and some will,
there are a lot of us who are caught up in this hell we all live in,
content with being blinded by rules and judgement,
we live in a world where its more okay to follow than to lead,
in this world being a leader is trouble for the system we're all a custom to,
being a leader in this day and age is being a threat,
not many people stood up against this system we all call life,
but toward the end our first ten years into the millennium,
we heard a voice,
a voice that who was speaking to us from the underground for some time,
a voice who spoke of vulnerabilities and other human emotions and issues
never before heard so vividly and honest,
this is the story of a young man who not only believed in himself,
but his dreams too,
this is the story of the man on the moon..."
This inspires me because it speaks the truth.
Other than him i listen to mostly metal and grunge, alternative at times...
During my freetime, i like to hang out with my best friend Robert, but that's mostly on the weekends.

I'd like to think that I'm a pretty cool guy to hang out with, but then again, I'm everything but conceded.
For anything else, just let me know, after all, i am in your class,
